Membership
Students interested in becoming part of UREMS are invited to read more about membership types and the application process below.
Membership applications will become available soon. Please note that the membership application is separate from the EMT class application. Active membership is only available to those who already have an EMT Certification. If you have any questions about joining UREMS, please contact Membership Officer, Arielle Vinnikov (arielle.vinnikov@richmond.edu).

Membership Levels
First Responder
Our first responder status is reserved for students who currently hold a valid EMT certification. Their responsibilities include responding to emergencies per URPD and RAA (Richmond Ambulance Authority) dispatchers and in accordance with the UREMS Standard Operating Guidlines (SOGs). First responders participate in have an active membership status in UREMS. This is reserved for students who currently University-sanctioned stand-by events identified as having a high potential for injury, such as intramural, club, or NCAA Division I sporting events.
Probationary Member
Probationary status is reserved for students who hold a current EMT certification. They attend training events and develop clinical skills as per the UREMS Field Training Guide. Probationary Members are not active members that are dispatched on calls, but may advance to First Responder status upon demonstrating clinical competence as described by the Field Training Guide and determined by the Training Officer. Probationary Membership may be discontinued at the discretion of the Executive Board as per the standards set in the Field Training Guide.
Associate Member
Associate status is reserved for students that are enrolled in or planning to enroll in an EMT class (this is not exclusive to students enrolled in the U of R EMT class). To achieve associate membership, students must demonstrate potential and complete an interview with a member of the UREMS executive board. Associate members are able to attend, but not vote in meetings. Associate members must be actively working towards first responder membership; failure to demonstrate will result in termination of membership. -

If you are or plan to be enrolled in an EMT Certification course and are interested in Associate Membership with UREMS, please reach out to Membership Officer, Arielle Vinnikov (arielle.vinnikov@richmond.edu) with:

● Graduation Year
● If you are enrolled in a class, and if so with what company/organization and when it is set to be completed. Or if you plan to enroll in a class within the upcoming academic year. -
First Responder Applications
To become a first responder, students must:
● Hold a valid EMT Certification in the state of Virginia
● Complete a membership application here.
● Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7
After submitting an application, Membership Officer, Arielle Vinnikov, will follow up regarding next steps.
