Report a Crime Anonymously

UR Police shield and Crime Stoppers logo

The University of Richmond Police Department has now joined with Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers to better serve the community of University of Richmond. Adding to our already Silent Witness Program, students, faculty, staff, and citizens now have three additional ways of providing information about a crime.

The Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers was established in Richmond in 1984 and has had significant success with citizens providing law enforcement with information that can solve crimes to help protect the property and safety of others in their community. To learn more about Crime Stoppers go to www.crimestoppersrichmondvirginia.com.

Since we are now in partnership with Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers, anyone that provides us tips that lead to an arrest may receive up to $1000 in cash rewards. This is all determined from a chosen board that revisits all tips that lead to arrests and it is their responsibility to provide what amount and to whom the cash rewards go to, not the University of Richmond.

"We don't have to know who you are to know who they are!"

Four ways to submit a tip!

  1. Calling 804-780-1000 (by phone)
When students/ staff or faculty calls this number, they will be asked several questions and are assured of their anonymity by being given an identification number. Again, no names! Approved rewards are paid out in cash by the identification number. All tips that are called for the University of Richmond will be submitted only to our department.

  2. Submit a tip online (by email)
Student/staff /faculty can go online to www.tipsubmit.com  and type in their crime tips there. This is similar to our Silent Witness, and all parties involved will be confidential.  The tipster will go to this web site and click on “submit a tip” under the For Citizens section.  The person will then select the country, state (Va), and region (University of Richmond) and then a form pops up to fill out your tip. It will have areas to submit suspect information, vehicle information, crime notes, drug information, and you can even upload a photo!  You will be issued a code number.  A tipster also has the option to log in and add additional information to the tip or to see if there are any follow up questions pending which they could possibly answer.  Again this form will be submitted only to UR police department.

  3. Text a Tip (by text) Students/staff/ faculty can also text a tip from their cell phone or blackberry. The tipster will send their text to CRIMES (274637)   In the tip message they will enter the keyword, “URTIP” then type in the message they wish to send. The keyword will show what jurisdiction the tip will be sent to, which is University of Richmond Police.  Subsequent messages can be sent without the keyword.  Text charges will apply for each text sent.

  4. TipSubmit Mobile - New App for Androids and iPhones!
To install this free app, tipsters can search for "TipSoft" or "TipSubmit" on the Apple App Store or Android Market.  TipSubmit Mobile will allow tipsters to submit secure and anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers, law enforcement agencies or School Safety Officers and Admininstrators.

  5. Silent Witness (Not affiliated with Crime Stoppers of Metro Richmond)
If you see crime occurring on campus, including fraud (so-called “white collar” crime), please click on link and fill out the form provided. All information will be kept confidential.
