If you wish to make a complaint about the actions of a University of Richmond police officer, an employee of the department, or any aspect of the operation of the Police Department, you can take one of the following steps:
- Come to the Police Department and tell any employee that you want to make a complaint.
- Call the Police Department (804) 289-8715, and tell the dispatcher you want to make a complaint.
- Complete the complaint form and mail it to our office. Any police department supervisor can assist you in completing a complaint form. You will be asked to identify yourself, however if you wish to remain anonymous the investigation will be conducted based on the information provided and you will not be able to receive follow-up information.
Once received, you will receive a letter acknowledging receipt of your complaint, and your complaint will then be investigated. You may be contacted and asked additional questions about your complaint.
Once your complaint has been investigated, the assistant chief of police will review the investigation and write you a letter explaining the outcome of the matter. If the complaint process is expected to exceed 30 days, you will be notified in writing when you may expect a reply.
